How privacy works on FileMoxie

FileMoxie tools do their work inside your browser. The files you choose are processed on your own device and are not uploaded.

What happens when you choose a file

  1. Your browser opens the file straight from your device.
  2. The tool converts, compresses or resizes it, using your device’s own processor and memory.
  3. Your browser offers you the result as a download.

At no point is the file sent over the internet. FileMoxie has no server that receives files, so there is nothing for us or anyone else to look at, store or lose.

What does travel over the internet

The page itself, and the small programs that do the work, such as the reader for iPhone HEIC photos. They are downloaded from filemoxie.com the first time a tool needs them. These travel to you. Your files do not travel back.

Check it yourself

You do not have to take our word for it.

  1. Open any tool and process one file, so the tool has everything it needs.
  2. Switch off your Wi-Fi or unplug your network cable.
  3. Process another file. It still works, because nothing needs to be sent anywhere.

If you are comfortable with your browser’s developer tools, open the Network tab and watch it while a file is processed. No request carries your file.

Hidden details in photos

Photos from phones and cameras carry hidden details: where and when the photo was taken, and which device took it. The pictures FileMoxie makes do not include them, which is useful before you post a photo or send it to someone you do not know.

There are two exceptions, where your file is passed on untouched:

Which tools work this way

All of them.

Tool Where your file is processed
HEIC to JPG On your device
HEIC to PNG On your device
WebP to JPG On your device
WebP to PNG On your device
AVIF to JPG On your device
AVIF to PNG On your device
Image Compressor On your device
Compress Image to KB On your device
Image Resizer On your device
JPG to PDF On your device

If a tool is ever added that needs to send a file to a server, its page will say so clearly before you choose a file.
