When PNG is the right choice
Choose PNG for logos, icons, screenshots, drawings and anything with a see-through background. PNG keeps transparency and sharp edges exactly.
For ordinary photos, WebP to JPG gives a much smaller file that looks the same.
What is a WebP file?
WebP is the format many websites now use for their pictures, because it loads faster than JPG or PNG. Browsers show it without trouble, but design tools, office programs and upload forms often do not accept it.
Is anything lost?
No. The PNG is an exact copy of what the WebP shows, at the same width and height. The file is usually larger, because PNG does not simplify the picture to save space.

- Is it free?
- Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many images you use it for.
- Are my images uploaded?
- No. The work is done by your own browser, on your own device. You can check: convert one image, switch off your internet connection, then convert another. It still works, because nothing is being sent anywhere.
- Is the transparent background kept?
- Yes. Any see-through areas in the WebP stay see-through in the PNG.
- My WebP is animated. What happens?
- The PNG shows the first frame only.
- Can I do many files at once?
