How to convert JPG to PNG

When PNG is the better choice
Some upload forms, design programs and print services only take PNG. PNG also suits screenshots, logos and pictures with writing in them, because it keeps sharp edges exactly as they are.
PNG never simplifies the picture to save space. Once a picture is a PNG, you can edit it and save it again and again without it getting worse, which a JPG cannot promise.
Does converting improve the quality?
No. A JPG lost some fine detail when it was first saved, and converting cannot bring that back. The PNG keeps the picture exactly as the JPG shows it now, at the same width and height and the right way up.
Why is the PNG so much bigger?
JPG saves space by simplifying detail you would not notice. PNG stores every pixel, so a photo usually comes out several times bigger as a PNG.

- Is it free?
- Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many images you use it for.
- Are my images uploaded?
- No. The work is done by your own browser, on your own device. You can check: convert one image, switch off your internet connection, then convert another. It still works, because nothing is being sent anywhere.
- Will the PNG have a see-through background?
- No. A JPG cannot have see-through areas, so the PNG keeps the same solid background the JPG has.
- Can I do many files at once?
- Yes. Choose or drop as many as you like. They are converted one after another, and you can download them all together as a ZIP file.
- Does it work on a phone?
- Yes. It works in any current browser on iPhone, Android, Windows, Mac and Linux. Nothing needs to be installed.
